| Approximately 6 months of work
came down to one day. On March 16, 2002, I attended the Science Congress
Science fair. I was up against tough competition, one of which was another
rocket project. Judges came and talked to me between 8:30 and 12:00. All
judges were volunteers from our community, mostly engineers and military
sergeants. The picture to the left is me all spiffy and ready to impress
judges (that's the plan anyways). During lunch, approximately a 3 hour delay
between judging and awards, I became very nervous. We decided to attend a
physics and chemistry demo to get my mind off things.
Approximately 6 months of work was justified during the
awards ceremony. All I cared about was getting to go to states, and
everything else I could win I thought as a bonus. I won 5 awards that
included:
Technology Application Award for the use of
technology to acquire, express, or analyze data
The Air Force Award for Outstanding Project
Excellence
The Army Bronze Medallion for Science and
Engineering Excellence
High Overall Honors Presented by the Science
Congress
A Partial Scholarship to St. John Fisher
University
Last but not least, I was one of three selected to
attend the State Competition on May 17th through 19th. It will be held near
New York City.
